Band Sawn Box

Band sawn boxes make great gifts and are fun to make. This loon is made from crotch cut black walnut, salvaged from a local tree service. It was over 80 years old and had started to die.

The eye is a 1/4” dowel. You’ll a 1/4” wide band saw blade or narrower to make the tight curved cuts required. The smaller the blade width the smaller the radius of the cut you saw will be able to make. The finish is Watco Oil, a product that really pops the grain in highly figured wood.
